Shanghai, Day 2

Day 2 in Shanghai was cold.  While reading a local paper (Yes, they do have them in English) I came across this little tidbit:
We are SO happy we got to come here in January instead of our original plan of February but WOW!  Some cold weather here especially when our idea of cold is anything below 70.

Here's a little Chinese for anybody who can read it.
Just the card in our room telling us about bed linens and towels

With a population of 22 million, Shanghai is out of land space.  So they build everything up.  Our hotel has 40 floors, we are on 33. I did figure out how our bathroom in the hotel is always so warm - when the lights are on, the mirror above the sink is heated!  You can feel the heat and it gets quite warm while trying to get ready for the day.
The view from our room

We did take a quick walk to People's Park.  About 30 minutes outside and then we were ready to be inside and warm again.  A few things we learned:  pedestrians DO NOT have the right away even in a crosswalk, cars and scooters just go wherever they want to, and electric scooters are quiet.  As in silent and will come up from behind and run you over.

Will soon have to figure out a selfie with three!

A little time to relax in the lounge and people watch.

No coke products at hotel but Pepsi Light.  It has the old fashioned pull tab that comes all the way off!

We were so tired and ended up taking a longer than anticipated nap and by the time we woke up, it was 10 pm.  We ordered some room service...
Now, that is some noodles!  With no forks provided, I did learn to do pretty well with the chopsticks.  Amazing what one can learn when hungry.

Only one more sleep for us until we become a family of three.  In about 24 hours, we'll be meeting our guide in the lobby to head out to meet our daughter.

  1. Hard to believe the moment we've all been waiting for is happening on your tomorrow (Monday). Since I'll get to see her on our Sunday, does that mean I'll have known her longer? I do think that only fair for this grandmother!

    1. Bonny, I think you will have known her longer since you haven't traveled through time like they have!!

  2. Sounds as if you two have had some interesting experiences today! You both are probably sound asleep now, but in just 9 and a half hours you two will finally meet your daughter. Sweet dreams.
